Fashion Crisis Officionado's!

When it comes to creating the perfect outfit, buying accessories to match your clothes can be an absolute fashionladiesminefield! Do you tone in or zone out?  Will accessories overdo the outfit altogether?  When it comes to fashion advice on accessories The FunkiJunk Jewellery Company have the answers to your questions!

When it comes to accessorising an outift, you don't have to pick accessories that colour-match it perfectly.  You can use colours to tone in with what you are wearing.  For instance, a black outfit with black shoes, black handbag and black accessories will make you look like you've just been to a funeral.  Great colours to wear with a black outfit would be black shoes with a black bag with tonal colours such as pink or turquoise blue infused through it with a pink or turquoise necklace and earrings to match. Of course the whole aspect of which colours you choose to tone in with your outfit very much depend on whether or not the colour suits your skin tone.

Our best advice is to choose something you will like and you don't have to necessarily follow exact fashion trends with accessories.  It's all about style versus fashion!

The colour rules

There are 3 main colour rules depending on your skin tone and these are:

1.  If you have dark hair, eyes and a sallow or olive complexion, or are afro-carribean or Asian in skin tone avoid the colour yellow like the plague!  Similarly, gentle baby-tones such as powder pink or baby blue do not suit you. Neither does beige or brown.  Your best colours will generally be black (yes you can wear it from your neck right down to your feet and get away with it!)  Bright colours such as red, cardinal pink, emerald green, mauve and turquoise blue are your best bet. So is grey or navy blue.

2.  If you're a red-head, strawberry blonde or have large tones of red in your hair along with fair skin, pale eyes and possibly the odd freckle or two then avoid black!  Navy blue, pink, icy-blue, turquoise and grey are similarly dreadful tones for your skin as they washes you out.  Your best bet is to wear an array of rustic colours such as mustard, beige, dark coffee, olive green, tobacco brown and brick.  These warm tones will give life to your fair skin and enhance the beautiful tones in your hair.

3.  If you have skin that has blue undertones, or a peaches and cream complexion with green, blue or bright blue eyes then black, grey, beige, apricot and cold blue tones are not good colours for you.  However, red, hot pink, lemon, bright blue, aqua and sage green are your best colours along with muted bright tones and warm pastel colours.

What About My Body?

Faces, Necks and Earrings

The general rule of thumb is; plain golf-ball size hoop earrings suit everyone.  If you have a long face then you can carry off studs or chandelier style earrings.  If you have a round face you should avoid studs and choose round dangly earrings to make your face appear thinner.

Necks and Necklaces

If you have a short neck then delicate pieces work better and 'dog-collar' style necklaces are an absolute no-no! Long necks will look beautiful in any choker style necklace (as long as it's not too thin!) as well as chunky pieces and long dangling necklaces.

Chests and Necklaces

Long rope style chains that hang over big breasts will look truly awful and will distort the line of the necklace and accentuate the chest area.  Delicate drop style necklaces are your best bet.

If you have smaller breasts then you can wear the most elaborate show-stoping necklaces that glide right down to your belly-button.

Wrists and Bracelets

Small and short arms are best off with delicate pieces whilst longer and larger arms can carry off larger and chunkier bracelets.  The opposite is also true!  Also bear in mind that chunky bracelets can make short arms appear chubby.

Hands and Rings

If you have small hands and delicate fingers then the knuckle-duster look will do you no justice!  Likewise, delicate rings are lost on large hands or long fingers.

Handbags

The bigger the handbag, the slimmer you look!
